Ahhhh! My eight months with you all have now finished! :( It was very sad to leave but as I'm still going to be in Cáceres for a couple more weeks, I will come in and say goodbye again before I leave properly.

It has been a great year. I have worked with fantastic teachers and met many great students! You have all been a pleasure to teach, I wish you all the best for the future and if you ever come to England while I'm there then please do let me know!!

Enjoy the feria!!

W/C 11th May

Hi guys,

Due to the trip to Bath last week, I didn't see the groups in 3 and 4 of ESO. So I'm combining last week's work and this week's work in this post.

With 1 ESO, we have been working on monologues for the oral exams. Remember to say as much as you can and use all the useful vocabulary you have learnt from each module!

With 2 ESO, we have been practising talking about appearances by finding images of people in magazines and describing them in small groups.

With 3 ESO, with Group B we did some work on the 2nd conditional. You can find this powerpoint HERE
With Group A we had a lesson on music. You can see that presentation by clicking on the image below:

With 4 ESO, we have been doing some practise oral exams. This included looking at photos and comparing/contrasting them in pairs. Remember to revise the vocabulary you learnt about how to describe photos and make suggestions about them.

Have a good weekend,

Nicola

W/C 27th April

Hi everyone, here are the things we have done in the last couple of weeks!

1 ESO: We did some oral work on transport. We also learnt about how Saint George's Day is celebrated in England. You can see the presentation by clicking on the image below:

2 ESO: With some of you, we had to finish off talking about the environment. However, we have now started appearances. You can find the presentation I made by clicking HERE. We will now start describing appearances in small groups over the next few weeks.

3 ESO: We learnt about Saint George's Day, it's the same presentation as above. With one group I also did some work on the second conditional. We discussed what we would do if various situations occurred. This powerpoint is HERE

4 ESO: We finished doing the game about describing objects. We began to talk about the upcoming oral exams, and how to do well in an oral exam. Finally we started to do some mock oral exams, we will be doing these over the next few weeks.

Finally, here is an interesting article for you about false friends in English and Spanish, enjoy! Click HERE

Conditionals

Hello everyone!

I know I haven't posted anything on here in a while - over Easter (and a little bit later) I was busy in the UK and therefore came back to school later than everyone else. Also, because of San Jorge last week, me being ill one day this week, and some school trips taking place, things have been a bit chaotic for me! I will upload everything I have done with you all by the end of the week.

In the meantime, if you are struggling with conditionals in English I suggest you have a look at a blog I found by clicking HERE

It is all about different songs in English that demonstrate the different conditionals. So if you're into music and need some help on your conditionals this could be perfect for you!! (P.s., that sentence was a conditional too ;))

Enjoy,

Nicola

W/C 23rd March

Hi everyone,

Woohoo it is now the Easter holidays!

I hope you all have lots of fun things planned!

This week you have all been doing activities and finishing exams, so I haven't seen many of you! With 3 ESO we did some oral work in small groups, talking about the past, present and future.
I didn't have time to do the 'Describing Things / Inventions' lesson with the other 4 ESO group, so if you want to see it you can click HERE and do the activities and learn the vocabulary at home.

See you all soon!

W/C 16th March

So, it was getting warmer last week, and then this week it started to rain, I am not happy! I hope it's sunny at the weekend as it is my birthday!! Anyway, this week a lot of you have been busy with exams, so I haven't seen you all...

With 1 ESO, we continued our work on dialogues, especially focusing on vocabulary related to food.

I didn't see 2 ESO because you had maths exams!

I only saw one group of 3 ESO, and we did some conversation practise. We will be doing this next week with the other group.

I only saw one group of 4 ESO, and we played a game in which you had to describe the different items you had on various cards to your partner and put them in the same order as each other. It was quite fun! Then we played a game similar to 'I spy' (veo veo), trying to guess items in the room by describing them.

Have a good weekend,

Nicola

W/C 9th March

Wow, it has been getting warmer this week! It seems like it has suddenly changed from winter to summer - and I'm not complaining! Anyway, here is what we did this week...

With 1 ESO we learnt about how Easter is celebrated in the UK. Click on the photo below to see the presentation:

With 2 ESO, we continued discussing the environment in small groups.

With 3 ESO, I talked to you all about how to discuss the future, when to use 'will' and 'going to'. You can see this presentation by clicking HERE

With 4 ESO, I did a different thing with each class. As my music presentation didn't work last week for one group, we did that this week. Click HERE to see that presentation. With the other group, I taught you how to describe objects. I will upload this presentation next week, when I have done it with the other group.

Have a good weekend, everyone!

Poetry time!

For those of you in my 4B class today, Irene and I told you about the importance of pronunciation. If you want to see this in a fun way, you should read the following poem. If you remember, I studied English Literature at university and I really like poetry, so I thought I would share this with you. It's a poem which talks about all the annoying words in English that look similar but are pronounced very differently, or words that you think should be pronounced one way, and then you realise actually they're pronounced completely the opposite! There are many words in this poem that even native English speakers get wrong all the time, or don't know the meaning of, so don't worry, it's just a bit of fun!

I'll put the start of the poem below, but if you click on the link it will take you to a full version of the poem, where you can also hear it being read out loud.

Click HERE to read the full version

The Chaos
Dearest creature in creation
Studying English pronunciation,
I will teach you in my verse
Sounds like corpse, corps, horse and worse
I will keep you, Susy, busy,
Make your head with heat grow dizzy.
Tear in eye your dress you'll tear,
So shall I! Oh, hear my prayer,
Pray, console your loving poet,
Make my coat look new, dear, sew it!
Just compare heart, beard and heard,
Dies and diet, lord and word,
Sword and sward, retain and Britain.
(Mind the latter, how it's written).

W/C 2nd March

Hi everyone! We are now in March - I can't believe it! I'm going to take this opportunity to teach you an English expression:

'Time flies when you're having fun'. I'm really enjoying my time here with you all, and it's going so quickly!! :(

Anyway...
So this week with 1 ESO we continued with the new situational dialogues, putting the sentences in order and reading them out in pairs to practise our pronunciation.

With 2 ESO, we discussed ideas relating to the environment, and the future of the environment, in small groups.

With 3 ESO, we did the lesson that I had done the week before with 2 ESO, about the environment and the future. To see this presentation look at last week's entry on blog. We will continue learning about the future next week.

With 4 ESO we did different things with each class. With 4A we finished the module on music with a powerpoint I made to check your vocabulary...you all did really well! With 4B, we couldn't do the music lesson because the computer wasn't working, so we discussed the final oral exams and I gave you tips on how to do well in an oral test. I hope the advice was helpful! We will do the music lesson next week, don't worry :)

Have a good weekend!

W/C 9th February and W/C 16th February

Hello everyone,

I decided to combine these two weeks into one post - due to our Swedish visitors, Valentine's Day films, Carnival, etc, the last couple of weeks have been a bit crazy!

So, with 1 ESO, we learnt about two holidays that are celebrated in the UK in February - Valentine's Day and Pancake Day. To see the presentation about this, click on the delicious pancakes below:

With 2 ESO, we finished off our UFO stories and will be starting a new topic next week.

With 3 ESO, we continued talking in small groups about events.

With 4 ESO, we continued discussing music in general and preparing a sheet that you will soon present to the class, about an artist of your choice.

W/C 2nd Februrary

Hello everyone, here is a summary of what we did this week...

1 ESO - we continued with dialogues about our favourite holidays.

2 ESO - we continued reading and correcting our UFO stories using the past simple and past continuous!

3 ESO - we worked in small groups discussing the topics of your current module, such as going to sports events, music concerts, etc.

4 ESO - we started the topic of music. We're currently working in small groups, talking about music in general and thinking of ideas for your written task. Remember, this task needs to include the following: a biography of your artist, a photo of them, five questions about the biography, and an activity about one of the artist's songs. Try to make your work as interesting as possible so your classmates don't get bored!! Also, use a programme like Microsoft Word to make your sheet neat and organised like the example I showed you. Good luck!

W/C 26th January

Hi guys, hope you have all had a good weekend.

This week we did the following...

1 ESO - continued with dialogues about routines, asking permission, and began dialogues about holidays.

2 ESO - you started to tell me your UFO stories using the past simple and the past continuous, which have been very entertaining!

3 ESO - we learnt about 'money'. You can find the presentation on this in the previous blog post.

4 ESO - we continued discussing in small groups our experiences with money.

jueves, 22 de enero de 2015

W/C 19th January

This post combines the work we did last week and this week...

1 ESO - we have been working in small groups and talking about our Christmas holidays, routines, and asking permission.

2 ESO - we revised how to use the past simple and the past continuous, and then played a fun game called 'Consequences' to consolidate this. We had a really good time playing the game, I think! The presentation about the past tense can be found HERE

3 ESO - I talked to you all about the education system in the UK, which has some very surprising differences to the education system in Spain! If you want to look through the presentation again, (and see the photo of me from when I was 15 years old in my Spanish class!!) click HERE

4 ESO - we did some work on the theme of 'money' and began to discuss our experiences with money in small groups. To access the presentation about money (which includes the video about 'the story of money' which one group didn't get to see due to internet problems, click on the picture below):

Have a good weekend!
